“I have played badminton for twenty years, at club and match level, but I have not played at County level or above. I have been training with the GB Deaf Badminton Team for a few years but I have never played for GB or England internationally due to the costs of attending, as it is self-funded. With the Advanced Bionics scholarship, I am now able to attend the 8th European Deaf Badminton Championships in 2018 in Trencin, Slovakia. This opportunity is something that I would never have had the chance to do otherwise.
If you had told me a year ago that I would be improving my hearing and badminton in the next 12 months, I don't think I would have believed you! I believe everyone has their own story to tell, and for me, my new chapter starts here. Thanks to AB!" said Peter Warman.
The annual AB sports scholarship is open to all AB cochlear implant recipients in the UK and Eire. You don’t have to play sport at a competitive level to apply, anyone who plays an individual or team sport at any level can apply. All we ask is that you are passionate about playing sport and willing to promote sport to other cochlear implant recipients. The 2018 Sports Scholarship application process will open in May 2018.
We would like to say a big thank you to everyone who applied to the Sports Scholarship 2017 and we wish you all the best for achieving your sporting ambitions.
